    It's a dishwasher

    4/5
It's a bit early to give a proper review, but AO (who presumably know best) invited me to do so in exchange for entry into a prize draw to win back the cost, and it was quite expensive, so here we are.  I am not, nor do I have any intention of ever becoming, a dishwasher expert, so please take this with a pinch of salt - especially those of you in hard water regions. The Bosch Serie 6 SMS6EDW02G Standard Dishwasher (white), entirely in line with expectation, washes dishes. It also washes a wide variety of other items, though it would be fair to say that the washing of such things as cutlery, cups, pans etc. did also fall into its expected remit, and I have not been left stunned in awe at its capabilities in this respect. Based on the four times I've used it, I can say that it appears to wash dishes better than I do by hand. I would consider myself to be fairly average in this department, which, for the sake of argument, I have assumed would equate to a rating of three stars. I don't know quite what would warrant a five star rating - though I feel like five stars can only really be earned over a longer term. I have therefore settled, being pushed as I am, on a four star rating at this time. I haven't read the instructions properly yet, AND YET I have been able to get the thing to work fine, which is FAB and very much in its favour. There's still one funny shaped plastic fitting that fell out when I opened it for the first time, and which I'm yet to find the home of, but it doesn't seem to be critical to basic function, so that is also FAB and of mild relief. I do however have bags of similarly enigmatic items which I have accumulated over the years, and I resent the power they have over me and my inability to dispose of them. But I also acknowledge that by the time they really get under my skin I have forgotten what appliance they came from, so it would be unfair to allow this to influence my review today. I would not recommend this dishwasher to anyone because it's the only dishwasher I am familiar with at present (I can’t even remember the last one we had any more, so little do I care), and I'd prefer to have a broader knowledge of the field of play before I influence the buying habits of others. THAT SAID, I would not go out of my way to recommend that anyone specifically doesn't buy this dishwasher if they fancy it. We bought it, and it is yet to do anything offensive. Hopefully we'll look back in a few years and feel like we totally NAILED IT.  So far it has cost us nearly £150 per load, though I would expect this to go down over time.

    Good looking

Dishwasher does everything it should. But can someone tell me why I would need to connect it to my phone to operate it instead of pressing the start button ? Even if I want to delay the start I can do it when I load it. Until my phone can load the dishwasher while I watch TV, I see no advantage.

    Died after 9 days!

    1/5
Picked this model hoping it would perform better than the woeful Samsung I had previously. Whilst it was working it did a great job of cleaning dishes. However, it only lasted 9 days and promptly died with an error code and a puddle in the kitchen. 9 days! I am honestly impressed that Bosch could be that bad- and no engineer available for 2 weeks. Bosch used to be pretty good, not any more. Avoid them.

    Amazing dishwasher, short warranty

    4/5
So I'm very glad Bosch decided to hear some feedback, and finally got rid of the touch-based panel from previous Series 6 and instead uses regular buttons agains - it's a massive and very welcome improvement. In addition, the useless Zeolith drying has been replaced by.....an option to open the door automatically at the end of the programme. Simple, yet effective. Other than the two above changes Vs previous Series 6 models - the dishwasher performs extremely well, as expected. Yes the ECO mode is long but it's perfect for overnight cleaning, and if you need your dishes quickly then it can do them in just an hour, and they come sparkling clean anyway. The app is a gimmick and I really don't see any reason why anyone would ever need it. Yeah you can start the dishwasher remotely - great, just use the timer on the display then?? But it's not a negative, if you don't want to use the app you don't have to. Finally, a negative point - series 6 used to come with 5 years warranty as standard, now this has been reduced to 2 - is that just Bosch being cheap, or are they losing confidence in their own product? Time will tell I guess.

Good machine but is limited for placements

    4/5
We had the previous Bosch dishwasher for over 12 years and gave good service. Eventually the heater went and due to its age we decided to purchase a new series 6. It states that it is a 13 place setting however, if you put large dishes in the bottom they do not stand up. Therefore after laying them down at an angle it is difficult to put many more plates in. To wash further dishes you have to lower the top basket making the situation worse. Overall this dishwasher has a few more bells and whistles but had we had known then we would have gone for a 12 place as there appears to be more room.

    Good energy rating but expensive

    4/5
The beauty of this machine is its economical energy rating. But other than that, the rest is as expected from a (relatively expensive) dishwasher. I have high hopes from Bosch, as the old machine lasted many years and I'm hoping that this one does similarly. I don't really get the need to pair a dishwasher with my smart phone, but I guess someone will see it as a plus.

    Thanks well worth buying

Overall washes well and very quiet. Very pleased with it but made mistake of thinking top rack was all for cutlery instead of having cutlery basket as well.

    Dishwasher pros and cons

    4/5
This has replaced quite an old dishwasher, and is much quieter and cleaning better than the older one. The only downside is that some of my larger plates do not fit in the lower basket, so I will have to wash these by hand now. The running times of the economy program is 4.5 hours, much longer than the previous dishwasher, but this could be why the dishes are coming out cleaner, with longer soaking times.
