Firstly, we loved the fridge itself. It has a lot of glorious features, plenty of room and looks great. The first fridge was delivered with some dents. AO let us use it for a week while we waited for the delivery of a new unit. I'm happy to say that during that first week all members of the household had a 100% success rate at closing the door on the fridge after use. This didn't seem remarkable at the time, and I don't want to come across as boastful, but it was simply a continuation of form for us. I guess we just took the skill for granted. The new fridge arrived and disaster struck. Our 100% success rate in door closing dropped to 50% for all house members and guests. Unfortunately, the left hand door would close just far enough to put the lights out and not sound the 'door open' alarm. The cooling unit valiantly tried to cool the whole kitchen down to 4C at some extra expense to me. We contacted Smeg customer support and were told that this is how fridge doors work. We got a helpful and instructive message from them detailing the necessary steps to successfully close a fridge door. Unfortunately, those steps, no matter how meticulously followed, did not result in the required 100% success rate required to keep the contents of the fridge at the desired temperature. The result of 3 weeks of frustrating back and forth with Smeg have resulted in us requesting a refund and instead being offered £200 to keep a broken fridge. If you get a working version of this fridge, and we do know they exist, then it's awesome. Unfortunately, if you don't, then Smeg customer support aren't the best to deal with. I guess it depends on whether you want to roll those dice?

So straight away lets address the cost of this fridge freezer...it is crazily expensive. Obviously we knew that when buying it but it doesn't change the fact of expense! Yes, it is massive in fact massive doesn't quite explain it's behemoth stature. However, the space inside is fantastic. As a family of four we've struggled with a slim old-school fridge freezer but this is a game changer. One of our household suffers with coeliac disease and now with such space we can almost eliminate the risk of cross contamination. My only other gripe outside of the cost is the ticking noise that comes on for over half the day. That genuinely bugs me but when it is not ticking it is perfectly quiet.
