Good fast computer. Excellent paired with the Studio Display. Only regret is the small ssd which you can only upgrade with a special order from Apple. 3 firewire sockets are a big upgrade.

Doesn't come with everything you need

Great machine, got it to replace my ancient iMac. Doesn't come with speakers or microphone, so had to shop for those, so now I have better sound quality than before. But on the other hand it will drive more displays than I can fit on my desk. If you get one be sure to get a GOOD quality display or 2 or 3. - it's worth it.
I purchased a SATECHI Type-C Stand & Hub to sit underneath and give me a second headphone socket and somewhere to house my 2Tb external drive.

Beasty little machine.

I've been using the mac mini m1 2020 to run Ableton for a while but I'd hit the max of its cpu before finishing tracks. My latest track was running at 95% cpu on the mac mini. Do I've bought this for the extra headroom and yeah it does the job. The same track sits at 50% on this machine. So theoretically I'd never need more power than this little beast has got. I'm absolutely over the moon with it. The connectivity is superb also. 6 thunderbolt ports and 2 usbs. I've got everything I could ever need plugged in and still 2 spare thunderbolts. The fact that 2 ports are on the front is simply perfect for me as I run 2 external SSDs in those. This means I can take them in and out whenever I need. I honestly don't think the machine could be better designed than it is. Before purchase I'd researched bench test speeds for the M2 max and in my experience those figures seem right. I think the extra power does warrant the higher cost than say the mac mini m2. All in I'm glad I went for it. If I was rich I'd have gone for the ultra. But the Max is by far enough for serious plugin heavy music production.

After coming from a last gen intel Mac mini this was a massive leap in performance especially when comparing to my old logic projects that gave my old system an issue but this one doesn’t even flinch at lowest buffer size. It works great for music production, photography, and video editing.
