Region codes are applied to all DVD and Blu-ray discs as a way of controlling the release of films or TV shows by country. So, if a film is only released in the USA, us movie buffs in Europe won’t be able to watch it on our DVD or Blu-ray players. But, fear not, this guide will help you to remove region code restrictions, allowing you to enjoy films from around the globe.
DVD discs and players are split into six regions across the globe. The discs and players we use in Europe are categorised as Region 2 while Region 1 covers countries such as America and Canada. For Blu-rays, the regions are split into three - Europe falls under Region B/2, America under A/1.
Have a look around online for tips for your specific player, but as a guide, the process for changing regions will look something like this:
Step 1
Turn your DVD or Blu-ray Player on and make sure there’s no disc inside. The region can’t be changed if there’s a disc in there. You can leave the tray open as an extra precaution if you like.
Step 2
Using your remote, have a browse through the settings and look for Info, Setup or Preferences. Within one of these options, you should see Region.
Step 3
Select your desired region code from the list above, kick back and take in those global titles!
