How do I retune my TV?

Find out how to retune your digital TV with our quick and easy guide

Most digital TVs will pop up with a little message to let you know when you need to rescan or retune. Sometimes retuning is done automatically, but from time to time, you’ll need to scan manually. Retuning can give you access to new services, channels and can even help to solve picture issues.

    Before you manually retune

First things first, you need to make sure you’re picking up the correct channels for your region. Your aerial receives channels from a local transmitter, and this handy tool automatically finds the right transmitter for your area. Put your postcode in the box and you'll be given a list of services that you need to tune into and their channel numbers. These are the numbers that you need to enter when you're manually retuning - we'll get to that in the next section. Here's an example of what you're looking for:

    • BBC A - ch 50
    • D3&4 - ch 59
    • BBC B HD - ch 54
    • SDN – ch 58
    • ARQ A – ch 49
    • ARQ B – ch 55
    • COM7 HD – ch 31

…and so on. There will be between 3 and 10 service groups and channel numbers for you to add.

    How to manually retune

Now you’ve got the channel numbers, you’re good to start manually retuning.

    Step 1
Press the menu button on your remote control.

    Step 2
Have a look around for a Set Up or Installation option and select either one of them.

    Step 3
Click on Manual Retune, Manual Search or something along those lines. You may be asked for a passcode. This should be in the product manual you got with your TV. If you can’t for the life of you remember where the manual is, try 1234 or 0000. These are normally the default codes.

    Step 4
Now, you’re up to adding in the channel numbers. This is where you will need the numbers that we were talking about further up the page. For BBC A, type in the number that you picked up earlier, for example, 50.

    Step 5
Repeat the previous step for each channel group until you’ve entered the correct number for each one.

You’re done! You should now have a full complement of TV channels for your area.

Retuning can sometimes cancel any planned recordings or favourite channels that you might have set up. Just have a quick check, we don’t want you to miss that flick that you set to record!
