Freestanding dishwasher measurement guide

Discover everything you need to know about measuring up for a freestanding dishwasher.

Dishwashers are fantastic timesavers that will help you power through the washing up. Before you buy your new appliance, you’ll need to make sure it’ll fit. Read on to discover how to measure up for a new dishwasher.

Connecting your dishwasher

The first thing to do is work out where your new dishwasher is going to live. If you’re replacing an old model, this is an easy job since you’ll only have to swap them out. If not, you’ll need to make sure that the new space has a water supply nearby and a 13 amp plug socket to power the appliance.

Dishwasher sizes

There are two kinds of dishwashers available, standard and slimline. They’re both designed to fit under a regular kitchen worktop, but slimline models are narrower, so they’re perfect if you’re a bit short on space. To make sure you get the perfect dishwasher for your kitchen, grab the tape measure and check the height, width and depth of your current model or wherever you want the new appliance to live. You’ll need to account for any water pipes going in and out of the dishwasher, so add a few extra centimetres to the depth of the appliance to make sure it won’t stick out from under the counter too much. You can find the dimensions under the Key Information tab when you’re looking at products on our site.
