Very pleased with my purchase
5/5
I had to replace my old diswasher as it died just after Christmas - they seem to know the most inconvenient time to go! Not being exactly loaded at this time of year I looked for the least expensive replacement I could find.
I was a little put off by some reviews - they mentioned minor issues, but I went ahead anyway & I'm very glad I did. Whilst I would never presume to question the validity of other reviewers' findings, my own differ somewhat.
The machine arrived following AO's usual excellent attention to detail & efficient delivery which was free as we were prepared to wait for a few days for deluvery. I installed the machine (I'm not paying good money for someone else to unpack it & connect it to a cold outlet!) & gave it an initial look over. Firstly I couldn't discern any difference in quality of finish or the guage of metal used for its cabinet to any other dishwasher I've owned including my previous Bosch. The lines of the machine were also very similar to German machines, nice square angles - very pleasing to the eye. The door opened smoothly, latched firmly upon closing & felt very solid. You shouldn't really need the operating instructions to run the machine as the front controls are obvious & easy to figure out, but I glanced at the booklet supplied (they're readily available online too from several sources) just to be sure. I loaded the machine with dirty plates & pans, less food debris, added a standard Aldi all in one dishwasher tablet & set the machine to the minimum 30 minute cycle.
If you pull out the bottom draw with it fully (& in my case usually carelessly) loaded, too quickly or a bit roughly, yes it CAN unbalance & come off the door runner. But I've found this to happen with every dishwasher I've owned . The wire draws & cutlery holder on this Electra dishwasher were no different in guage, quality or finish to its predecessor - which was nearly double the price of this one, about eight years ago. The machine ran at a noise volume you'd expect in my opinion. When the "end" light came on I opened the door ajar for 20 minutes as recommended to aid faster drying, then checked my dishes. The pans, plates & glasses were very clean, dry & streak free - the tupperware items had water droplets on them - which I'd expect on plastic. Ok, yes, you can buy machines that pop the door open themselves when finished to aid drying but certainly not at this price. Also, any machine I've ever owned, be it Bosch, AEG or this one, will end up with wet plates if you leave them in the machine for hours after its finished. They dry with heat, the interior of the machine cools down, maybe to very cold if left overnight in a kitchen in winter - & of course you get condensation on the washed items. My trick is to always attend to the dishes on completion of the cycle - or put up with having to dry one or two items that may be wet if they've been left. It's a minor inconvenience compared to washing up by hand after a party!
I've been using the machine a while now. It's given consistently excellent results even on it's minimum cycle. It feels strong & solidly made. You get a twelve month guarantee which you have option to extend upon registration if you wish. I'd recommend this Electra dishwasher to anyone requiring an ordinary & straight forward machine. If the price I paid for it reflects what it's worth, all I can say is, some offerings from other manufacturers must be very overpriced!
