Making sushi at home doesn’t have to be tricky! These tasty, no-fuss rolls are perfect for a picnic or lunchbox. You can fill them with anything your kids like - from crunchy veggies to cooked chicken or even cream cheese.

    What You’ll Need:

    • 1 cup cooked sushi rice or short-grain rice
    • Nori sheets
    • Soy sauce
    • Cling film or baking paper
    • Kid-friendly kitchen knife

    Desired fillings:

    • Sliced cucumber
    • Sliced peppers
    • Grated or sliced carrot
    • Cooked chicken or ham
    • Cream cheese or hummus

    Here's how it's done...

Prepare the rice: Once your sushi rice is cooked and cooled.

Set up your rolling station: Lay a piece of cling film or baking paper on a clean surface. Place a nori sheet on top, shiny side down.

Spread the rice: Add a thin layer of rice, leaving about 2cm clear at the top edge (this helps it seal when you roll it).

Add the fillings: Spread a little cream cheese or hummus across the middle. Then add any of your fillings – cucumber, peppers, carrots

Roll it up: Use the cling film or baking paper to help roll the sushi away from you, pressing gently to keep the roll tight. Dab a little water on the top edge of the nori to seal it closed.

Slice and serve: Carefully unwrap the cling film or baking paper. Cut the roll into bite-size pieces using a kid-friendly kitchen knife and serve with soy sauce for dipping.
