    My dishwasher will not start

If you’ve got dishes piling up and need to get them clean in time for dinner, it can be frustrating when your dishwasher won’t start. There are a few things you can check to get it going again, from testing the electricity supply to resetting the machine. Whatever the issue is, our handy guide will help you get back up and running again.

    Some things to check first

    • It may sound obvious but sometimes the dishwasher won’t start because the door hasn’t been closed properly. Make sure you hear a locking or clicking sound that tells you the door has been securely shut.
    • The problem might be with the fuse in your dishwasher plug. If your dishwasher won’t turn on, unplug it and check if something else - like a lamp - works in that socket. If it does, the problem will be with the plug and you may need to replace the fuse.

Give your dishwasher a manual reset

To solve any problems, you can always try resetting your dishwasher. Start by turning off your appliance and disconnecting it. Wait 30 minutes and plug it back in. Once it’s back on, select a new wash cycle and start it up. Sometimes, there’s a different reset programme depending on the brand of dishwasher you have. So if nothing has worked so far, check your product manual for a more specific solution.

    Contact the manufacturer

If you’re still having trouble, check the product manual for specific solutions for your model. You can also try calling the manufacturer for more direct help and advice. Check out the link below for a list of manufacturer numbers.
