Solid, reassuring and feature filled with a couple of minor drawbacks
4/5
This is a great, feature-filled high-capacity washing machine. This was an upgrade from a basic model for me but I think the features were worth the (only) slightly higher price.
I like the added features of ActiveCare, Steam Clean, Final Care (which keeps the washing rotated after the wash to stay fresh) and smart durations depending on washing weight (although this seems to only be a feature on Eco washes). The only point of frustration here is that the touted "ActiveCare" feature is only available in a few select modes. Hotpoint states that AciveCare uses a way of watering down the detergent and clever drum movements to both protect garments while proving a superior wash. Sounds nifty, but in reality this feature can't be switched on in cotton, synthetics or eco mode. Essentially the big three.
There are lots of modes for all types of washing. One that is new to me but much appreciated is "bed and bath", which gives the hard-wearing fabrics of towels and bedding a thorough thrashing. Reassuringly refreshed.
I didn't find the washing machine to be as quiet as some others have suggested. Perhaps it's due to incorrect levelling, but it's low hum is quiet loud when on its spin cycle. Perhaps a shame for some as this unit is marketed as having a quiet direct drive motor.
Its build quality feels solid, and as far as washing machine aesthetics go, it looks fine. The black door adds a couple of points of style and makes your washing machine look like it's behind tinted windows, like a VIP in the back of a blacked-out motorcade. Okay, maybe that last one was a bit over the top.
