My washing machine will not empty

There’s a chance during your washing machine’s lifetime that you’ll run into some trouble trying to drain the water from it. There could be something stuck, or you may just need to drain some excess water out of your machine. We’ve got some quick and easy suggestions, so you’ll quickly be able to wash your clothes again with no issue.

Drain it out

One reason why your washing machine won’t empty may be because your filter pump is full of excess water. The solution to this is to just take out the filter and drain the water out of your washing machine.

The filter is usually at the front of the machine, behind a piece of the washing machine’s shell. If you can’t find it, check the manual for instructions. Once you’ve found it, place a towel and some sort of container by the machine to catch the escaping water. This is really important, or you’ll have a little flood to deal with as well. Begin to unscrew the filter and the water should start to pour out. If your container is filling up, you can screw the filter back in to stop the water flow. Once you’ve emptied your container, you can repeat the process to keep clearing out all the excess water.

Clean the filter

There may be something blocking the filter, which may be causing problems with your washing machine. To clear it out, take the filter out again and take a look in the tube in your washing machine. If there’s anything obvious in the way, like a sock or pet hair, remove it and check for any other obstructions. If it’s difficult to see, shine a torch into the filter pump. Once you’re done, make sure that the filter is screwed back in tightly and give your machine a test run to see if your washing machine will drain properly.
