Summer has finally arrived – or at least it feels like it – and that means it’s time for some cool drinks. You could of course run to your nearest high street coffee shop and get your fix there, but chances are these drinks will be loaded with way too much sugar and it might get a little expensive over time. It’s much easier, cheaper and healthier to make your own drinks. Besides, each drink takes less than 5 minutes to make which is possibly less time than it takes to run to said coffee shop.

So, I’ve come up with three options: one for the coffee fan, one with the typical summer flavour of strawberries, and one for the person who loves the taste of green tea but would like to indulge a little at the same time. As I mentioned, each drink takes less than 5 minutes to prepare and serves 2. In addition to the ingredients for each, you can add some whipped cream on top – you know, if you’re feeling particularly decadent.

    Coffee-Chai Frappucino

    • 200ml milk
    • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
    • 100ml water
    • 1tsp instant coffee
    • 4tsp instant chai drink
    • 150ml crushed ice

Dissolve the instant coffee and instant chai drink in the hot water and leave to cool. Put all ingredients into a blender, blend for 1 minute, pour into a glass and serve.

Optional: add whipped cream on top and a sprinkle of cocoa.

    Strawberry-Mint Frappucino

    • 250ml milk
    • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
    • 150ml crushed ice
    • 8 strawberries
    • 5 fresh mint leaves

Put all ingredients into the blender and blend for 1 minute, pour into glasses and serve straight away.

Optional: add whipped cream on top and decorate with a strawberry and a little mint.

    Matcha-Vanilla Frappucino

    • 250ml milk
    • 3 scoops vanilla ice cream
    • 150ml crushed ice
    • 1/2tsp vanilla extract
    • 2tsp matcha tea powder

Put all ingredients into the blender and blend for 1 minute. Serve immediately.

Optional: add some whipped cream on top.

Now lets hope the sun stays around so you can enjoy your refreshing iced drinks out in the garden!
