We all know that fruits are good for us, right? We should eat at least five pieces a day and add fresh vegetables on top. I know from experience that this isn’t much of a problem in summer. The idea of biting into a cold, tangy apple simply doesn’t appeal very much when the temperatures are near-on freezing and the skies are grey. This is where juicing comes in.
Whilst I’m not an advocate of drinking masses of shop-bought juices, making your own with the help of one of these lovely gadgets is a different matter. Juicing means you know exactly what goes into your glass and you can balance fruit and vegetables. Don’t be put off by the vegetables; carrots and beetroots, for example, are surprisingly sweet and taste fantastic when juiced together with apples or oranges. Add some ginger for a kick and a bit of an immune system booster and your recommended fruit and veg intake is not only easy to achieve but also delicious and mega-healthy.
So, here are some suggestions for a few really tasty juices. All you need to do for each of them is wash your fruit/veg, juice them, and pour into a glass. And, just because the party season is over, it doesn’t mean that your drinks can’t look pretty and have a little bit of a happy feel to them! Give them some sparkle and, if you want, even a fancy little paper umbrella. So, all that’s left now are the ingredients for each. All measurements will serve two.
2 medium apples, 2 medium oranges, pressed juice of 1/2 lime, 1/2 tsp of fresh ginger
3 medium apples, 1/2 medium cucumber, pressed juice of 1/2 lime
4 medium carrots, 2 apples, 1/2 tsp of fresh ginger
2 medium beetroots, 2 oranges, 2 apples, pressed juice of 1/2 lemon

I hope you enjoy these juices and they will help you to feel good for the new year! What’s your favourite juicer recipe?
