From picnics to a little treat after dinner, a French apple tart is a very versatile dessert. With golden pastry filled with a sweet apple sauce, this recipe is perfect when you’re craving everything sweet and savoury.
For the pastry:
For the filling:
First, you’ll need to pre-heat your oven to 180-degrees. Whilst that’s heating up, put the flour and cold, cubed butter in a mixing bowl. Rub the butter and flour together with your fingers until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Add a splash of water and combine the mixture so that it’s in one big ball. Cover with cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Roll out the dough into a large circle and place it into a 9-inch round flan dish. Then, cut off the excess pastry from around the edges
Peel and slice the apples and place them neatly inside the pastry case.
To create the filling, mix the flour, caster sugar, eggs, crème fraiche and cinnamon.
Pour the mixture on top of the apples.
Bake the tart in the oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Remove the tart from the oven and leave to stand in the dish until cool, then sieve icing sugar over the top for decoration, and enjoy!
