Tried and Tested: Can your smartphone really control your oven?

I find nothing more rewarding than starting a DIY project and seeing it all come together at the end. I up-cycle whatever I can get my hands on, and although it keeps me busy, sometimes I take on so much I don’t even have time to think… let alone pre-plan dinners! After looking online, I found this Hoover H-OVEN 300, which promises to be the solution to all my problems. I’m disorganised, so a Wi-Fi connected oven means I can spend even more time DIY-ing by turning the oven on to preheat from the workshop, studio or wherever my latest project takes me.

Our old oven had really poor performance and didn’t cook food evenly. Pizza was the worst! One half would be cooked and the other half would be raw, so when I found out the Hoover H-OVEN 300 had a specialist ‘pizza function’, I was sold. Plus, the Wi-Fi capability means I can turn on the oven to preheat from my phone – perfect because I can go about my business without having to keep an eye on the time and when the oven is ready. With this feature, I know exactly when the oven is at the right temperate for food to go in.

The instructions that come with the oven walk you through the Wi-Fi Wizard App set up. I was a little apprehensive at first because technology isn’t really my thing, but the guide made it very easy. You download the app from the App Store and switch the oven to Wi-Fi mode. Once that’s done, you quickly create an account on the app and add in your Wi-Fi password and the app does the rest. It shows the oven immediately! I was rather impressed with the app (and myself to be honest.)

The Wi-Fi Wizard app doesn’t just control the oven, it also has a variety of different recipes to choose from. This helped me massively when deciding what to have for dinner. Me and my family live a hectic life, so being able to choose from recipes rather than come up with your own meal ideas was really helpful. The pizza recipe and function was the best new feature for me. We love a late-night pizza on a Friday night, and it was amazing to use the Wi-Fi feature to pre heat and then the pizza function to cook it to perfection. I connected to the oven while working on a project in the garden and by the time I’d finished up, the oven was pre-heated ready for our pizza and it cooked beautifully.... a crispy base and bubbly toppings - yum!

Not only that, we’re trying to be a bit healthier in this house, wedding pending.... and the steam function helps with that. We’ve used it to cook a few dishes now and they’ve tasted great. It surrounds the dish with steam to keep vitamins and minerals in the food. Who knew an oven could be so smart!? Seriously impressive!

Yes! To have the ability to pre heat the oven before even arriving home is a big help. We’ve been able to pre heat the oven, so we’re ready to cook as soon as we’re back. This has been a massive help and really reduced our overall cooking time, so we have more time for jobs and DIY... hours are precious in this household!

It certainly lived up to expectations and surpassed them in fact. I would recommend it to all of my friends, especially those with busy families! And I will definitely look at other Hoover products in the future. Fabulous oven. I love that it sends an alert to my phone to let me know when it’s reached the ideal cooking temperature. It helps to make sure we have cooked the food perfectly, because it’s going in at the right time. And another added extra… the oven’s very quiet. Our old one sounded like it was about to take off. This is a great plus for us because we love listening to music when we’re cooking, and now we can actually hear it.
