Leftover recipes to clear your fridge

Recipes to clear out your fridge

Made a load of tasty dishes through the week and have a fridge full of leftover ingredients? We’ve put together some tasty recipes to use up those last bits and help you reduce food waste. Whether you’ve used half a pack of veg or just have some ingredients that are going off soon, we’ve got creative ideas to inspire you to use them instead of throwing them away.

    Big on breakfast

Start your day and declutter your fridge in one fell swoop with these handy recipe ideas.

    Fancy some French toast?

If you’ve got a loaf that’s on its way out, it can still make a tasty batch of French toast. All you need to do is dip the slices into a mixture of beaten eggs, milk, and a dash of cinnamon. Fry until golden brown and serve to suit you. We recommend a drizzle of maple syrup or a sprinkle of powered sugar. What a great excuse to start your day the sweet way.

From leftover veg to a breakfast frittata

Got a load of veg left from last night’s dinner? Chop and chuck it all into a hearty frittata. All it takes is a quick sauté with onions and garlic, then add a whipped egg, salt, pepper, and a splash of milk. When it’s golden brown, it’s ready to be sliced up for a nutritious, filling breakfast.

Overripe fruit makes the perfect smoothie ingredient

Your berries and bananas might be a bit too soft to eat on their own, but they’re ideal for popping in a smoothie. Blend them with some yoghurt or milk, a handful of ice cubes, and your preferred sweetener – honey or agave syrup are great choices. And if you want to make it extra healthy, give it a boost with some spinach or kale. Blend until smooth, then it’s ready for your morning wake up.

    Leftovers make a tasty lunch

Lingering leftovers are ideal for whipping up a delicious, nutritious lunchtime treat. These recipes will have you clearing out your fridge, reducing food waste, and enjoying every minute of it.

    Build a sandwich

Leftover meats and cheeses make the perfect filling for a sandwich. Your Sunday roast chicken or ham is ideal for popping between two pieces of bread with cheese, salad, and your favourite sauce. Take it to the next level by using leftover rolls or baguettes too. You’re just winning at the leftover game.

    Hearty and healthy

Leftover veg can be mixed with grains like quinoa or couscous to create a nutritious and delicious salad. Add in some protein, chicken or tofu work well, and dress with a sauce of your choice to add some extra flavour. That’ll fill you up until dinner time.

    Sumptuous soups

Broth or stock from a previous meal can be combined with leftover veg to make a flavourful soup. Carrots, celery, or onions are the perfect candidates, but you can also pad it out with cooked pasta or rice. Serve with crusty bread for a tasty lunchtime treat.

Remember to store everything properly in airtight containers in your fridge, so they stay fresh and safe to eat.

    No-waste dinners

Whip up some tasty evening meals with leftovers from your fridge, here are some recipes to give you the inspo you need to get cooking.

    Sizzling stir fry

Pop all your leftovers in a wok or large frying pan, add oil and cooked rice or noodles for a fully-fledged dinnertime masterpiece. Season with soy sauce, garlic, and ginger for an extra burst of flavour and cook together until it’s piping hot. That’ll make Monday evening a bit brighter.

    Cook up some comfort food

Leftover meat, like roast chicken or beef, can transform into a mouthwatering casserole with just a few steps. Combine the meat with leftover veg and cooked pasta, then mix in cream or tomato sauce, herbs, and spices to give it a kick. Transfer it all to a baking dish, top with cheese, and bake until golden and bubbly.

    Perfect pizzas

Whether it’s cooked veg or meat, it can make a great pizza topping. Buy a pre-made base from the supermarket or get adventurous and make your own dough. Spread tomato sauce and pesto over the base, and top with your leftovers and some cheese. Bake in a preheated oven until the crust is golden. There you have it, a homemade pizza in next to no time.

These leftover recipes not only minimise food waste, but they give you tasty, budget-friendly meals with next to no effort. So, get experimenting and make the most of every ingredient.
