You’ve got to find the right colour balance in your kitchen. You don’t want it to be too loud, but you also don’t want it to look bland. Adding lots of colour to a neutral kitchen can be risky. It might seem like a good idea now, but a few months down the line and you could be filled with regret. So, what do you do?
There are plenty of easy, low-commitment ways to add colour to a neutral kitchen. You don’t have to repaint everything or get the builders in to make major changes. All you need to do is try out a few of our handy tips…
A few brightly coloured accessories can go along way in a monochrome kitchen. Going with a yellow kettle and spice rack can be enough to add some sunshine to a neutral space. Whatever accent colour you want, a couple of bold accessories are all you need to make it work.
Got some walls or shelves that are looking bare? Some colourful artwork is perfect for filling the space and bringing the room to life. You can really add some personality too, by going with some artwork that means something to you.
If you can’t quite make yourself commit to permanent splashes of colour, even in small doses, then fresh flowers are a great alternative, whether you pick them from your garden or buy them in. Potted plants also easily add colour and character to every room.
If you’re feeling a little braver, then why not give your kitchen some contrast with a bold coloured island? You’re not committing to painting the whole kitchen, but with a bit of effort you can still have a dramatic and colourful centre piece.
Everyone always forgets about textiles. A woven rug with an exciting pattern and plenty of colour can easily brighten up your floor. If you can find some matching tea towels too, you’ll really bring everything together in the kitchen. And the best bit – you can move it whenever you want.
Wallpaper can be quite a commitment, but not if you’re clever about where it goes. Try putting wallpaper with a bold design inside your cabinets or behind open shelves. It’ll create the look of a feature wall without it overpowering the room.
