While I do love to see meticulously landscaped gardens in interior design magazines (and who doesn’t?!), I often wonder how to incorporate some of the ideas into my own rather small back garden. While I would love to have a huge sprawling lawn and zoned areas for all manner of activities, the truth is, it’s not terribly big and for the two of us, we don’t actually need (or want to take care of for that matter) anything much bigger.

Here’s the little patio at the back of our garden that we created a couple of years ago to make the most of the space we did have…

Now the good news is that there is plenty of inspiration out there for smaller outdoor space decorating – whether you have a small garden like me or even if you just have a small patio or balcony! And so today I thought we’d concentrate on looking at some of these smaller gardens to see how we can transform a little patch of land, concrete, wood or brick into something a little special.

The weather is starting to lift and so enjoying lazy days in the sunshine is something I look forward to all year. Enjoying a beer in the garden in the fading sunlight is one of life’s little pleasures, no? So why not transform your outside space – no matter how petite it may be?

Do you have a small outdoor space? What do you do to make the best use of the space you have?
