In the build-up to the big Spring Clean, our social feeds have been taken over by waves of immaculate fridges (aka “fridge porn”.) According to a recent Waitrose report, more than 30% of us have stepped up our organisation skills when it comes to the kitchen.

While aesthetically pleasing, the fridge porn phenomenon also serves a different kind of purpose by increasing awareness of unnecessary plastic packaging and food waste. By styling and making the most out of your fridge space, you are not only decreasing the amount of food wastage but also saving money, as a recent study revealed that the average household throws out over twenty pounds worth of food every month!

Davina MacKail, Feng Shui expert, says:

“Fridges might allow us to store food safely for longer, but they’re also renowned for accumulating junk: mouldy jars of half eaten sauces; out of date food and wilted vegetables.  Feng shui, the Chinese art of creating environmental balance, sees this as negative energy or sha chi.

“The kitchen, where most fridges live, symbolises the heart of the home.  This is where we receive our nourishment, the root of our good health.  So, if we want vibrant health it is important to give some attention to our fridges to cultivate the positive energy, the sheng chi, which symbolises our health and prosperity.”
