Whether it be shells and postcards from a far away beach, festival tickets and wristbands, pine cones from a camping trip, a menu or placemat from your favourite restaurant, or all of these plus some photos, you’ll end up with a treasured memory box of summer. here's how it's done...

Cut lines into the corners of one of the longer edges of the box kid. Replace the lid on the box. Glue the loose lid edge to the box base using strong glue. (Adults will have to help with the glue here.) This will create a hinged lid. Cut two pieces of strong paper and glue these, one on the outside and one on the inside, to reinforce the hinged lid. These should be the same width as the box and should cover the side wall and lid area of the box. Note: Close the box before gluing the outer paper, otherwise it won’t close properly.

Cover the outside of the treasure box with brown paper using PVA/craft glue.

Cut circles out of the craft foil, and fold these around each corner of the box. You will need to cut a line to the centre of the hinged corner ones and fold under. Once shaped, carefully poke 3 holes with the craft knife through the foil and box. Again, ask an adult to help here. Push a split pin through each and flatten the ends against the box.

Line the inside of the box with wrapping paper, covering the split pins and any scrappy ends of parcel paper.

Stick the decorative tape to the box using craft glue, again covering any scrappy ends.

Cut a strip of card for a handle and glue in place. Felix decided to add a lock and details using a black pen, too.

You can even personalise the outside, by sticking on a few of your souvenirs.

Where will you be going this summer?
