here's how it's done...

  • 1

Blow up the balloon and tie a knot in the end. Stick several layers of tissue pieces all over the balloon using the glue and water mixture, in a paper mâché style. Leave the knot uncovered.1

  • 2

Have a break between layers while you leave this to dry. (Sit the balloons on a radiator to speed up this process.) Try not to eat the sweets!!

  • 3

Make some tiny gift tags from the card, and attach a fairly generously sized loop, using the gift ribbon.

  • 4

When the paper mâché is dry, you can pop the balloon. Do this gently by cutting a small hole near the knot and let the air out slowly. (If the papier mâché collapses a little, push it out from the inside.)

  • 5

Cut a slit just large enough to pop some sweets in. Insert these and the loop of your gift tag. Now add another layer of tissue, this time sealing the hole, and working around the gift ribbon (don’t dry on the radiator this time, especially if you’ve filled it with chocolate!). Decorate with shredded paper and googly eyes, for the mummy, and felt tip, green tissue and googly eyes for the pumpkin.

These make great presents for your fiendish friends and any monstrous characters that dare to come trick or treating!
