Should You Use Air Fryer Liners?

Air fryer liners promise easier clean-up — but are they worth it? Before you toss one in your basket, here’s what you need to know about when to use them, when to skip them, and how they might affect your cooking.

AO's air fryer expert, Isabella settles the debate on whether air fryer liners are worth the hype.

Air fryer liners both have pros and cons. For example single-use air fryer liners are convenient, easy to use and will absorb any excess oil making your meals healthier. However, as they are single-use, they are not cost-effective in the long run and not environmentally friendly. Silicone air fryer liners are the more eco-friendly option but you do have to clean them thoroughly after each use.

Air fryers work by blowing hot air around the basket to cook food. Having a liner at the bottom of the basket can obstruct airflow and as a result your food may not cook as you want it.

That being said, Air fryers are super easy to clean and so really you don’t need to use a liner. To easily clean a basket-style fryer, we recommend mixing baking soda and water together to make a paste. Put the paste on a damp dishcloth and use it to gently scrub the affected areas. Once done, rinse off any residue and your air fryer will be as good as new.
