How do I update my Apple HomePod?

Find out how to get the latest features for your Apple HomePod.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of new stuff. Go on, treat you and your Apple HomePod to the latest features. Find out how you can get the most recent updates out there so you can start getting more from your device.

What do I need to do to update?

It couldn’t be easier getting the latest software loaded onto your Apple HomePod. As The Pointer Sisters once said, it’s totally automatic. Your device will check for, download and install updates on its own. But, if you want to update it yourself, you can do just that with your Home app. Here’s how:

  • First of all, whichever Apple device your Home app is on will need to be running the latest version of iOS.
  • All good? On that same device, open up the Home app and tap the arrow symbol in the top left corner.
  • Tap ‘Software Update’ and if there’s a new version available, tap ‘Install’.

What should I expect during the update?

  • Whether it’s done manually or automatically, the update will load on to all the HomePod speakers you have set up in your home.
  • While it’s updating, there’ll be a white spinning light on top of the HomePod.
  • It’ll take some time to update and it’s important not to unplug the device until the light has stopped spinning and it’s finished updating.
