Like any typical 6 year old after Christmas, Felix is busy playing with his new toys and presents. So I persuaded Minnie, with a little help from our Christmas chocolate tin, to help me decorate a jar to add our upcoming 2016 memorable moments. It’s really easy, quick to make and also meant Minnie could get involved and learn some crafty techniques. When it’s complete, you can add notes about special times and exciting achievements throughout the coming year. We’re already looking forward to reading them and remembering all the fun times at the end of 2016.

here's what you'll need...

  • A jar with lid (recycle one if you can)
  • Patterned paper
  • String or ribbon
  • Craft glue and spreader
  • Scissors
  • Pen

here's how it's done...

Draw each number on a different pattern from your paper selection. You can use a stencil for this if you like.

Cut the numbers out. Minnie is just learning to use scissors, so we held the scissors together and she helped with the straight edges.

Then spread glue on the back of the numbers and stick them to the side of the jar. Minnie loved this bit.

Cut out some more pieces of patterned paper and write down any nice things that have happened so far this year. Felix joined in here, as he wanted to us remember how he beat us at his new board game on New Year’s Day! Cheeky monkey.

We rolled ours up, tied them with string and then popped them in the jar.

At the end of the year we’re hoping to take out the cards and add them to a scrapbook with some photos and then we can re-use the jar in 2017.
