For the best results and minimal faff, it’s important you give your dishwasher a good clean every now and again. You should find a removable tray underneath the bottom sprayer at the base of it – take that out and carefully clear out any leftover food that’s not gone down the drain. Some models feature a fully-removable tray – these can easily be washed in the sink, using a paper towel to clear up any remaining food from the dishwasher trap. 

It's also worth wiping down the rubber seals of your dishwasher every couple of months too, as this a prime spot for grimy build-ups. Your typical dishwasher will use between 10 and 12 litres of water per cycle, though this varies depending on the model and the mode you’ve selected. Some machines will feature more efficient eco-modes, saving you time and money on your bills.

You’ll usually find the dishwasher salt compartment at the base of your unit. If you’re having trouble spotting it, it’s always worth giving the product manual a quick read.

If you think your dishwasher is blocked, make sure to turn it off and find the drain. If you can’t spot it, the product manual should point it out. Once you’re ready, just unscrew the drain catch, pop out the filter, and clear the pipe of any build-ups. Then it’s as easy as putting the filter back in, screwing in the drain catch, and now your dishwasher should be ready for action.
