AO Recycling’s Bertha
Get to know AO’s big green recycling machine.
When you shop with AO, we want to make sure everything is as easy as possible. That’s why we’ll save you a trip to the tip and recycle your old appliances at our state-of-the-art facility. To do this, we built ourselves a lean, mean recycling machine called Bertha. Here’s what you need to know about our special piece of kit.
Meet Bertha
Weight: A whopping 80 tonnes of appliance crushing metal.
Favourite food: Fridges. Bertha eats about 100 in an hour, and she’s an expert in responsibly taking care of any harmful oils and gases that are inside.
Special skills: She helps us recycle 700,000 fridges every year which is 20% of the UK total.
Why Bertha? We held a competition to name our recycling machine and one of our very own AO’ers came up with it. We think it suits her!
When it comes to recycling, Bertha has helped us set the bar. We’re the only UK retailer that owns their own facility like this, and it means we can look after your old appliances better than anyone else.
How can I get my old appliances recycled?
If you’d like us to recycle your old appliances for you, just let us know when you’re buying its replacement by selecting our Remove & Recycle service in the basket.
If you’d like to recycle an old appliance but haven’t bought one with AO, we do offer a Collect & Recycle service that can be used whenever you need it.
