Energy rating
Understanding energy ratings is one of the first things that'll help you narrow down your search for the perfect fridge. The energy rating range from A-G, with A being the most efficient. So, your food stays fresh, and you get to save some energy too.
Warranty
We all want a fridge that stands the test of time, but even top-quality models need a little protection, just in case. The standard warranty for a fridge is usually 1 or 2 years. Number of shelves
The number of shelves inside varies depending on the size, but it can range from 2 in an undercounter model, to 7 or more for an upright. Some also come with removable or adjustable shelves, so you have the room you need for larger items, like tall bottles.
Total capacity
Of course, finding the perfect fridge means working out the right size to suit your shopping. Fridge capacity is measured in litres, and ranges from around 89 to 400 or more, depending on whether it’s a mini fridge, undercounter or an upright model. Fit types
The fit type of your fridge can either be freestanding or integrated. A freestanding model can be placed pretty much anywhere in your kitchen and can be taken with you when you move. A larder fridge is an undercounter fridge that doesn’t come with an ice box. This means all the space is for just chilled food.
- What is a mini fridge?
A mini fridge is a small fridge that’s ideal for drinks and cold snacks. Their small size means you can have them pretty much wherever you want, like the living room or your home study.
- Are freestanding fridges standard sizes?
Freestanding fridges can differ in both height and width depending on the type you choose. However freestanding undercounter fridges typically have a height of 84cm, a width of 55cm and a depth of 59cm. - How much space do I need to leave around a fridge?
Some manufacturers recommend leaving about 2-5 centimetres of space around your fridge, so they work as efficiently as possible.
- Can I keep a fridge in my garage?
No, unless you have heating in the garage to stop the temperature dropping below 10 degrees.
- What is a metal backed fridge?
Essentially the back panel on the appliance is made of metal. This is a safety feature that stops your fridge from potentially setting on fire – we only sell metal backed appliances.
- Do all fridges have ice boxes?
No, larder fridges don’t have ice boxes.
- How do I know which hinge I need on my integrated fridge?
If you don’t currently have a built-in model, then it’s whatever your kitchen fitter recommends. If you do, then when you open the door, you’ll be able to tell if it’s a sliding or fixed hinge.
- How do I know when it's time for a new fridge?
Usually this will become clear when your food starts going off quicker, or if the temperature in your fridge isn’t very cold.
- Should I buy a wine cooler?
