Terms For Posting Your Photographs

We love it when you snap and share your latest ao.com purchases with the world. In fact, we love your shots so much that we showcase the very best on our website, social media channels and our emails. If you're feeling snap happy, here is everything that you need to know about uploading your photos and how we will use them.

When you post your photograph to us you agree to allow (free of charge) ao.com and the other companies in our group the right to use your photograph, name, social media handle, likeness and other submissions including (but not limited to) those you have tagged with @ao, #aoathome or any other hashtags that relate to the ao.com brand for any marketing, advertising and promotional purposes. This includes use on ao.com and the ao.com social media pages. You agree that we may use, reproduce, distribute, alter and/or edit in any manner we see fit.

All photographs we receive go through a moderation and approval process (explained further below). We’ll carefully select which submissions to use and there’s no guarantee that your images will be selected and shown on ao.com or our social media pages.

The photos you submit are your responsibility and you may only submit photographs which you have taken.

Any photo that you’ve posted that has then been moderated and uploaded by us will be available to anyone with access to our website or social media sites.

Please don’t submit photos that include any confidential information. For example, your home address or contact numbers. Any submissions including personal information will not make it through our moderation process.

We won’t be able to view, approve or post any of your pictures if your social media account is set to private.

• Please submit a high-quality image, ideally in colour and not black and white
• In your image, please try to only include products that you’ve bought from AO. If you include products in the photo that were not purchased from AO, please let us know which one(s) are from AO in your Instagram caption.
• Please don’t include identifiable individuals, especially children in your images. We’re happy to see your pets though!

Get social

• Simply upload a photo of your new product and include @ao or #aoathome on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.
• We'll then comment on your post and if you reply to us with the hashtag #yesao, your photo will be sent into our system for approval.
• Images that fit our brand guidelines and adhere to the terms and conditions on this page may be published on our website and/or social media channels and/or in our emails.
• If your images are published, your social media handle will become your username and your profile photo will be made public. Visitors to our website will be able to click on the profile image or username to be taken to view the users’ social account.

For your photo to appear on site, on our social media channels or in our emails, it’s got to pass our moderation process. We accept posts in our absolute discretion, but we won’t accept or post your photo if it:

• Is defamatory of any person
• Is obscene, offensive, hateful or inflammatory
• Promotes sexually explicit material
• Promotes violence
• Promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age
• Infringes any copyright, database right or trademark of any other person
• Is deceitful
• Breaches any legal duty owed to a third party, such as a contractual duty or a duty of confidence
• Promotes any illegal activity
• Is in contempt of court
• Is threatening, abuse or invade another’s privacy, or cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety
• Is likely to harass, upset, embarrass, alarm or annoy any other person
• Impersonates any person, or misrepresents your identity or affiliation with any person
• Advocates, promotes, incites any party to commit, or assist any unlawful or criminal act such as (by way of example only) copyright infringement or computer misuse
• Contains any advertising or promotes any services or web links to other sites
• Breaches any applicable law of England and Wales or the country from which the photograph is posted
• Please don’t include identifiable individuals, especially children in your images. We’re happy to see your pets though!

If you want to make a complaint regarding a photograph or would like to remove your own images from our site, please contact us at [email protected]. If a formal complaint is made against you, we may refuse any further posts from you. Although we can remove photos from our own gallery on ao.com, removing images from third party sites, for example, social media channels, may be out of our control. In such cases, you will need to contact the third-party website directly.
