Accept & closeMore than half of Brits no longer go to coffee shops as barista-style home coffee machines become more popular. We surveyed 2,000 people to investigate how the nation are consuming their coffee.
Research revealed that more than half (56%) of Brits now own a coffee machine at home and they’re using it more than ever. In fact, over a third (38%) use their coffee machine every day.
With the average coffee shop brew costing £3.80*, it’s no surprise that only one in ten people are still spending £10 a week on takeaway coffees. Even fewer – just 6% – admit to spending up to £30.
Lattes are the UK’s favourite coffee, with 15% of people choosing them as their go-to, closely followed by cappuccinos at 14%. And with more than half of Brits (58%) feeling confident they can describe different coffee styles, it’s clear we’re getting pretty good at making our own café-quality drinks.
Isabella Forgione, small appliances expert at AO, said: “The confidence households are showing with their coffee machines shows why investing in a coffee machine is never a waste of time or money.”
Coffee machine sales have surged by over 25% since the start of the financial year. A premium coffee machine might cost around £300, but with regular use, it can pay for itself in no time. If you’re someone who drinks two coffees a day, you could break even in just 50 days.
“It’s a no-brainer if you’re thinking about getting a coffee machine,” Isabella added. “Adding one to your kitchen can give you peace of mind when it comes to having that brew before work, or simply if you’re looking to relax at the weekend”.
