Torn between different types of freezer? Our buying guide will help you spot the difference.
The best temperature to keep food fresh and safe, as well as optimising the energy it uses, is -18°C.
A frost-free freezer circulates cool air around the cabinet, which stops ice building up. That means you won’t need to manually defrost it. That’s a win for your weekends.
If you’ve got a freestanding model, it’s always worth leaving a few centimetres around the freezer for airflow – with a little bit extra around the back for pipes and sockets. We usually recommend 4-5cm. Integrated models have vents in all the right places, so they can be safely built into your cupboards without losing that necessary airflow.
Fast Freeze settings are designed for when you're unloading the shopping. Because food has often travelled from a shop back to your home, the thawing process may have already started. So, it rapidly lowers the temperature, locking in nutrients and the original texture of food quicker so it tastes better. Plus, if you're unloading lots of shopping in one go, the door being open can lower the temperature inside.
Normal freezers need the room temperature to be above 10°C to keep running properly, so look out for models that are suitable for outbuildings or have a feature that means it’ll run at low temperatures.
