If you plan on cooking up big family meals and cheeky weekend fry-ups on the regular, you’re going to want a good cooker hood. They help keep the air clear in your kitchen by getting rid of steam (and smoke…), as well as grease and lingering odours. To make choosing yours a bit easier, we’ve pulled together a few of our favourites in this handy list of the best cooker hoods.
If you fancy a traditional look that matches the rest of your décor, then a chimney cooker hood is a great fit, and not just because they come in a range of sizes. The name probably gave it away, but they’ve got a chimney breast. They’re also less noisy and can be mounted higher up the wall than other models.

Canopy cooker hoods are pretty similar to built-in and visor models, except they tend to be a bit smaller. That makes them ideal if you’ve got limited space to work with. Some of them even have an extendable section that pulls down to cover larger hobs.
They might be much more compact than a regular model, but an integrated or built-in cooker hood is great for smaller kitchens. They can be tucked away behind a cabinet, so it’ll only be visible when you’re using it, which also makes it ideal for small hobs. But if you’re short on space, they’re a top choice.
Visor cooker hoods are a no-nonsense way to keep your kitchen free from steam and odours. They tend to be a bit cheaper than other models, and attach to your wall above your hob for direct ventilation. They also give you a neat and tidy finish that fits in with the rest of your appliances seamlessly.
Got your hob installed on a kitchen island? First of all, very swish. Second, you’ll probably want a specialised island cooker hood that hangs from the ceiling directly above your cooking space. Not only does that mean it’ll quickly clear the air in an open-plan kitchen, but it also looks fantastic too.

Taking minimalism to the next level, a downdraft cooker hood actually hides beneath your worktop until you’re ready to use it. All you’ve got to do is press a button and it’ll rise up, ready to clear the air of steam and grease. They are on the pricier side, but they can’t be beaten when it comes to style (and they’re pretty cool, honestly).
