Here are the top 5 things you should look out for when buying a new integrated dishwasher.
There are quite a few things to consider when you’re buying an integrated dishwasher. You need to think about what size you need for your household, the energy rating available and the kind of programmes that can get your dishes sparkling again. Read our helpful guide to discover everything you need to know.
The perfect fit
There are three kinds of integrated dishwashers available:
Standard models - fully covered by a cabinet door
Semi-integrated dishwashers - partially covered by a door so the front-facing display is visible
Slimline appliances - fully covered by a cabinet door and are designed for smaller spaces
When it comes to measuring, the height and depth for all integrated dishwashers are standard so they can easily fit under a kitchen worktop. The main measurement you will need to take is the width, which is usually 60cm wide for standard and semi-integrated models and 45cm for slimline. For more information on measuring up for an integrated dishwasher, check out our handy guide.
When it comes to describing the internal capacity of a dishwasher, you'll notice we refer to 'place settings'. So for example, if a model has '10 place settings' this means it can hold enough plates, bowls, dishes, cups, glasses and cutlery for 10 people. Slimline dishwashers have capacities ranging from 9 to 12 place settings and are perfect for compact kitchens. Standard and semi-integrated dishwashers with 13 to 14 place settings are a great match for medium-sized households, while models with 15 place settings or more are ideal for large households.
Every integrated dishwasher has an energy rating from A+++ to A. This refers to how efficient that model is, with A+++ being the highest rating given. The better the rating is, the less money it will cost to run throughout the year. They’re also more environmentally friendly, so you’ll be helping the planet, as well as saving a bit of cash.
Integrated dishwashers have a number of handy specialist programmes that deliver sparkling results. For baked-on food that’s tough to remove, intensive programmes use powerful jets and higher temperatures to tackle stains and get your dishes looking their best. If you’re in a hurry, a quick wash can clean dishes in under an hour. There are also programmes that take extra care of your glasses and anything delicate that needs a thorough, but gentle clean.
Integrated dishwashers are packed with extra features that make cleaning even easier. If you cook with lots of big pots and pans, choose a model with flexible racking. You can move the cutlery baskets anywhere you need to and adjust basket heights to make room for your biggest dishes. Some models also feature a light that projects the programme time on to the floor, so you’ll never lose track of how long the programme has left before you need to unload.
