Range cooker fuel types explained

Discover which fuel type is right for you.

Range cookers are the perfect kitchen companion for passionate cooks who love to create huge feasts. They’re powered by either gas, electric or a combination of both, so whether you prefer baking cakes or getting the family round for a Sunday roast, there’s a range cooker that’s right for you. Read our guide to discover more about the different fuel types available.

Electric range cookers

Most electric range cookers have a fan oven inside the main cavity that circulates hot air around to make sure your food is cooked evenly. This makes it ideal for larger dishes like lasagne, when you need it perfectly cooked in the middle and beautifully crisp on top. Electric range cookers also maintain a consistent temperature throughout, so your food is spot on, no matter which shelf you use. This is great for bakers who make big batches of treats.

Gas range cookers

A more traditional way of cooking, gas range cookers offer you extremely precise control. The temperature is really responsive so it’ll heat up quickly, perfect for flash frying or whipping up a stir fry in a hurry on the hob. Heat rises inside gas ovens, so the top of the cavity gets hotter than the bottom. This is perfect for Sunday roasts, when you need to cook food at different temperatures to make everything perfect.
