When it’s cold outside, there’s no better drink to warm you up than hot chocolate, especially when it’s as indulgent as this one. Forget about your usual powdered hot chocolate beverages, inspired by the unbeatable Ferrero Rocher, this drink uses real chocolate melted in hazelnut milk, topped with whipped cream and chopped nuts. It’s a little bit naughty but it’s so worth it.
Heat the milk in saucepan over a medium heat. Keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t boil over.
When the milk comes to the boil, reduce the heat and add in the chocolate and cocoa powder. Mix well until all of the chocolate has melted and the cocoa powder has dissolved.
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream, chopped hazelnuts and a dusting of cocoa powder.
This is a real treat of a warm winter drink and one that everyone can enjoy. If you want to make it even more grown up, try adding a little hazelnut liqueur – it’ll change your expectations of hot chocolate for the long term.
