    DIY: Neon flamingo light

Get the trend without the hefty price tag

Add a splash of neon to your home with this fun DIY project! We’re going to be creating a flamingo light today but you could create whatever takes your fancy, a word, a cactus or any shape you can think of! It’s the perfect project to get creative and make something new for your home!

    Here's how it's done

    • A pencil
    • Pliers
    • Neon pink El wire (3-5m in length)
    • Pink wire
    • Large white card
    • Superglue

Start by drawing your flamingo shape onto the white card. Keep it simple – think curved neck, round body, and one leg tucked up. If freehand’s not your thing, print a template and trace it.

Using your pliers, bend the pink craft wire to follow your flamingo outline. This will act as the frame for your EL wire, so take your time and make sure it matches your sketch as closely as possible.

Once your wire shape is ready, glue it onto the card using superglue. Press it down gently and let it dry completely – this is what gives your flamingo its structure.

Now for the fun bit! Starting at one end, carefully glue the EL wire along the pink wire frame. Work slowly and press it down as you go to keep it neat. You can trim any excess once you’re done.

Most EL wire comes with a battery pack – just pop in the batteries, switch it on, and watch your flamingo come to life. You can mount it on the wall, prop it on a shelf, or even frame it for extra flair.

And there you have it – your very own neon flamingo light! It’s bold, bright, and guaranteed to bring a smile (and a bit of sass) to any room. Whether it’s for your bedroom, home office, or a gift for someone who loves a bit of kitsch, this DIY is a total winner.
