Right, listen up, you cleaning enthusiasts! We've done a deep dive into the nation's spring-cleaning routines, and the findings? Let's just say they're quite revealing. We're about to share some surprising habits and perhaps a few unexpected cleaning solutions. Get ready for a candid look at how people *really* tackle their chores.

With spring in full swing, it’s a chance to refresh, declutter and reset the home. But how do Brits really feel about spring-cleaning? We’ve uncovered the UK’s surprising cleaning habits from the most satisfying chores to your star signs’ signature scent.

While many of us embrace the spring reset, 1 in 9 Brits admit they won’t be doing a spring-clean this year. Almost a third of the silent generation detest cleaning, while Sagittarius is the least likely star sign to clean at all – with nearly a third skipping spring cleaning entirely.

But for those who do commit, we’re putting in the effort – spending an average of 3.6 hours on a full clean, adding up to a staggering 2.6 million hours nationwide.

To Spring-Clean or Not to Spring-Clean?

#CleanTok has taken over the internet inspiring others to clean their home. Satisfying to watch and designed to indulge your senses. 11% of Brits say that social media motivates them to tackle their clutter.

A tidy home might be the key to a calm mind. 70% of Brits say that cleaning helps reduce stress, and 80% of millennials are the most likely to pick up a mop to unwind. And if you’re part of Gen Z, you might be the most ‘zen’ generation yet, with a third admitting that spring cleaning helps them de-stress.

Even star signs show different attitudes towards stress relief, the results might surprise you. 76% of Taurus respondents find cleaning therapeutic, while only 15% of Virgos agree, despite their reputation for perfectionism.

    The Nation’s Favourite Cleaning Scents

If you do like a bit of fragrance while you clean, you’re not alone. Citrus reigns supreme as the UK’s favourite scent for a fresh-feeling home. But did you know your star sign could influence your fragrance preference?

According to cleaning expert and influencer @CleanWithBea, scent plays a huge role in shaping our mood and motivation. She explains:

“Adding scent to your cleaning routine can boost productivity and influence your mood, positively impacting your mental well-being. A simple trick is to add a few drops of essential oil to the water tank of your steam cleaner. As you clean your floors, the heat helps neutralise odours while filling your home with your favourite scent.”

Here are Bea’s top five tips for making your home smell incredible:

    1. Infuse your steam cleaner

Infuse your steam cleaner with a few drops of your favourite essential oil to leave behind a refreshing aroma when steam cleaning. You can also add drops of the same essential oil into your mop water to not only make your floors sparkle but also leave them with a delightful smell.

Add a drop of essential oil on a cotton ball in your vacuum bag. After you’ve added the oil, vacuum as normal. Essential oils produce a fragrance that travels outside of the vacuum's vents, making anywhere your vacuum smell great adding fragrance to the air as you clean.
