    Fridge Freezers

    Things to Know

There are some essential product details you'll want to consider before starting the search for your new fridge freezer. Our handy videos will help you narrow down the options to make sure you find exactly what you need.

    Did you Know?

Your appliance needs time to breathe

When your new fridge or freezer has just been delivered, you should leave it for at least four hours before turning it on to let the gas inside settle. Skipping this step voids your manufacturer warranty, so make sure to factor this into your plans.

    A clean fridge works better

Cleaning the fridges drain hole will keep it in tip-top shape. To do this, turn off the appliance and remove any food that’s in it, uncover the drain hole and use the unblocking tool that came with it to get rid of any food residue or grease. Then you can pop the cover back and turn your appliance back on. Good as new.

There’s a hack to keep your fridge smelling fresh

Popping a dish of baking soda in your fridge and freezer will neutralise lingering smells.

It’s worth leaving space for ventilation

To make sure your appliance is ventilating properly, leave 5cm on each side and at the back. That’ll let air circulate around it and keep it running smoothly.

Another way to use an ice cube tray

Hate food waste but running out of space? Try freezing stocks, sauces, and soups in your ice cube tray. It’s also a great hack for herbs in oil.

The higher the number, the colder the setting

If you’re unsure about temperature settings on your fridge and freezer, the higher the number, the colder it’ll be. It’s worth adjusting this to suit how empty or full each cabinet is.

You can pop shelves in the dishwasher

Most fridge drawers and shelves are dishwasher safe, so you can pop them on a normal cycle when they need a spruce. Just check there’re no LED components first.

Most appliances won’t work in outbuildings

Despite being cold on the inside, most fridges and freezers don't like cold conditions on the outside. So, if you want one for your garage, look out for ones specially made for the conditions. Have a look at our handy buying guide to take the stress out of searching.

Quick freeze settings keep your food in tip-top shape

When you get back from the shops, pop the quick-freeze setting on to rapidly drop the temperature. By getting everything back to ideal conditions that bit faster, it’ll help your food last longer.
