    Haircare troubleshooting

Have you ever tried the latest hair trend, only for it look nothing like the photo? The truth is those bouncy blow-outs and sleek styles look effortless but they can take some trial and error to get just right. We've got loads of troubleshooting tips to help you figure out the right way to tame your hair.

Why does my hair go frizzy after I dry it?

There are loads of reasons why your hair might look flat, even when you try to give it some volume. It could be because your hair is naturally fine or there's a buildup of product and excess oil, which weighs your locks down. But don't worry, there are a few things you can do to give your hair some extra oomph:

    • Only use conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends of your hair, avoiding the roots to make sure the hair doesn't end up weighed down
    • Try a clarifying shampoo once a month to give your locks a deep clean and shift any stubborn buildups
    • Blow dry your hair upside down to add some lift
    • Make sure you're not using high temperatures
    • Sleep with a silk pillowcase or bonnet to reduce friction

Why won't my curls hold their shape?

If your curls just won't stay put, this could be down to product buildup, hard water, or using too much heat. This doesn't mean you have to stick with straight hair forever though, there are some simple fixes that can help those waves stay in place for longer:

    • Find the right lightweight products for your hair and avoid heavy creams, which can weigh your hair down and make it lose its shape
    • Use a clarifying shampoo to give your locks a deep clean at least once a month
    • Try adding a gel, mousse, or curl-defining spray for extra hold
    • Avoid using too much heat

How do I know if my hair is heat damaged?

Split ends, a brittle texture, noticeable breakage, unwanted frizz, and loss of elasticity are all telltale signs that your hair is damaged. The good news is you can try these tips to help bring your locks back to life:

    • Get split ends trimmed at the salon, so you can focus on the hair that’s still in good shape
    • Deep condition once a week
    • Avoid styling with heat as much as possible
    • When you do use heat, make sure you’re using a protectant

Why does my hair feel rough after blow drying?

Blow drying your hair can leave the hair feeling dry because of moisture loss and cuticle damage. But sometimes using heat isn't the issue, it just makes the existing damage more noticeable. Don’t worry though, there’re a few things you can do to ditch the dryness:

    • Use a leave-in conditioner or smoothing serum before blow dying
    • Always use a heat protectant
    • Stick to a low or medium heat at most if possible
    • Keep the dryer moving, so one section doesn’t get overdried
    • Finish off with the cool shot function, if your device has one, to smooth hair out

Whatever problem you're trying to untangle, there are plenty of solutions to keep your locks looking happy and healthy. All it takes is a couple of small changes to your routine.
