If you see the Blue Woolmark Certified badge on any appliance, you can rest assured knowing it’s safe to pop in your ‘hand wash only woollens’. When you’ve selected the Wool programme, it’ll use lower temperatures and a gentler spin, treating them with the utmost care. Because this model is certified and approved, you’ll have that extra peace of mind knowing your fluffy jumpers and scarves won’t shrink.
Whether it’s a waterproof jacket or all-weather trousers, outdoor textiles need to be handled differently. Glued seams, water-resistant membranes and water-repellent fabrics are heat-sensitive, which is why the Outdoor programme keeps a low temperature, has special drum movements, and measures humidity. But it doesn’t just protect the water-repellent element, it replenishes it with the wash-in agent as well. That way, you can wash and waterproof at the same time.
Taking care of synthetic items is a breeze with the Bosch Easy-care cycle. It’s specifically designed to be gentle on clothes like shirts, blouses, and t-shirts made from cotton, so you can be sure your outfits for the office are in great hands.
Hotpoint’s Wool Cycle takes good care of your winter woollies. It uses a gentle wash to protect the shape of your jumpers, hats, scarves and other items, so they come out looking as good as new. Now, you won’t have to worry about anything being out of shape.
You should use your washing machine’s hand wash setting when dealing with items that need a little extra care, like silk. If any of your clothes are labelled ‘hand wash only’, you can pop them in on this setting to make sure they stay looking and feeling their best.
Many washing machines now feature a special wool programme, specifically designed to keep your knit jumpers, scarves, and gloves safe during the wash. These cycles typically run at much lower temperatures and spin slower to stop any shrinking and bobbling.
While these two programmes have similar functions, they are not the same, and it is important you don’t confuse the two. Putting delicate fabrics in on a cycle meant for woollens shouldn’t cause any problems, but washing woollens on a delicate cycle won’t give them the same protection a wool programme will. When available, we always recommend you pop your woollens on the dedicated cycle to keep them at their best for longer.
Typically speaking, a delicate cycle is best suited to silk, lace, and any other thin fabrics such as underwear and bedding. If you’re worried about running colours, this programme is your best bet too, as it helps prevent any transfers by washing at lower temperatures.
