Heat Pump tumble dryers are super-efficient, but to save the most energy, programmes may take a little longer to dry your clothes than on standard dryers. It’s important not to overload the drum either, so they can perform at their best.

Laundry that fits around your day, that's the idea behind this Haier heat pump tumble dryer. Smart AI picks up on the fabric type and how much you've loaded in, then tweaks the settings to match, so a 9kg pile of towels and a couple of delicate tops each get what they need. The Low Temperature Dry programme works at just 32°C, which keeps fabric fibres in better shape than a hotter blast would. There's an I-Time cycle too, stopping automatically once your washing hits the right dryness. And if you like to iron your shirts while they're still a little damp, the Iron Reminder pings when the load reaches 6% humidity. The Pillow Drum helps too, since its laser-welded, snag-free surface lets clothes glide over the pillow-shaped pads.
