A Hot Zone sounds quite exotic, doesn’t it? The truth is, it’s not, but it is an essential space in your kitchen that you need to be aware of. It’s the safe distance between the hob and the cooker hood and in this guide we’ll take a look at the key measurements and other bits of safety information that you need to know.
The Hot Zone is the space that gets hot while you’re cooking on the hob. To protect your appliances, fixtures and fittings, we recommend leaving at least 75cm of space between your gas hob and the cooker hood above and 65cm if it's an electric hob. It’s also a good idea to have at least a 9cm gap on either side of the Hot Zone for ventilation. If you’ve bought a hob or hood and opted for our installation service, our engineers won’t be able to fit your appliance if the Hot Zone space isn’t at least the sizes stated above.
