Unlike traditional curling wands that rely on intense heat, the Dyson Airwrap uses airflow to dry, shape, and volumise hair with less risk of heat damage.
However, some users have become puzzled when their Airwrap has shut off and a red light has appeared. AO’s Haircare expert Katie Lilywhite has explained what this red light means and how to stop it from appearing.
She said: “A red light on your Dyson Airwrap typically signals one of two issues: overheating or a clogged filter.
“If your device has overheated, switch it off and allow it to cool completely before turning it back on.
“However, if the red light persists or your Airwrap keeps cutting out with weak airflow, it’s likely due to a blocked filter.
“A clogged filter can restrict airflow, causing the device to overheat and automatically shut off to prevent damage. Regular filter cleaning is essential to keep your Airwrap performing at its best.”
When it comes to cleaning your Airwrap, Katie explained.
“For optimal performance, you should clean your Airwrap once a month.
Before starting maintenance, turn off the device, unplug it, and allow both the machine and attachments to cool.
To clean the filter, slide the filter cage over the power cable and open it. Use the open gap to remove it from around the power cable.
Pass the C-brush through the power cord and gently rotate the C-brush up and down the filter mesh. If you’ve lost your C-brush, a soft, dry toothbrush will do the trick.
Don’t use any water or chemicals to clean the filter mesh. Gently wipe the C-brush clean.
Loosen debris from the filter cage with the dry C-brush.
Next, rinse the filter cage and C-brush under warm running water. Apply a pea-sized amount of clarifying shampoo to the C-brush. Lightly scrub the filter cage in circular motions, both up and down.
Rinse the filter cage for 20 seconds to remove all shampoo.
Shake the filter cage to remove excess water and gently pinch it with a paper towel to squeeze out moisture.
Allow all parts to air-dry thoroughly before reassembling the device. Finally, clip the filter cage back onto the Airwrap.”
