Noticed your dehumidifier leaking water? Don’t panic—our small appliance expert Josh Warren is here to help you figure out what's going wrong. From an overfilled water tank to a blocked drainage hose or even an uneven surface, there are a few common culprits. Here's how to tackle the issue and get your dehumidifier back in action safely!
The most common cause is a misaligned or overfilled water tank, which can lead to water spilling out. Another possibility is a blocked drainage hose. Even placing the unit on an uneven surface can cause leaks, as water may not flow properly.
If you find your dehumidifier is leaking, the first thing to do is turn it off and unplug it. Then, check that the water tank is correctly positioned and not overflowing. If your model has a drainage hose, inspect it for any blockages or kinks. Cleaning the air filter regularly can also prevent leaks by reducing excess condensation.
"Make sure the unit is on a level surface and, if you notice any ice build-up on the coils, let it melt and adjust the settings to avoid freezing."
Whether your dehumidifier is still good to use after a leak depends on the cause and whether it's been properly resolved. Most of the time, fixing a misaligned tank or clearing a blockage will get things back to normal. However, if there's internal damage or electrical issues, it's always safer to have it checked by a professional before using it again.
