Inspiration: Kerry Lockwood Room Tour

With over 100k fans on Instagram, there isn’t much that Interior Lifestyle blogger and influencer Kerry Lockwood doesn’t know about putting a beautiful space together for her family. So, when it came time to tackle her 10-year-old daughter’s bedroom, a few simple changes made all the difference.

“It’s tricky [as a renter], I’ve had to adapt my style to fit around the house we live in” Kerry explains, but with a love of industrial style softened with touches of glamour, the contrasts of old and new mix perfectly together. There’s no doubt, renting hasn’t impeded Kerry in fitting plenty of her recognisable style throughout her home.

Her daughter’s bedroom, however, was lacking storage space and it was time to create a slightly more grown-up look for Jersey that would take her easily into her teenage years.Smart swaps with multi-functional furniture meant Jersey had even more options for enjoying her bedroom. Swapping out the cabin bed for a single gave the room an airy feeling but Kerry didn’t stop there.

“It’s only a small room so the biggest challenge was making the best use of the space to give us plenty of storage but enough floor space for when her friends come around. So, for example she has a dressing table that doubles up as a desk for when she is using her laptop or doing homework.”

Kerry tackled much of the work herself, preparing the walls by filling holes and patching then painting the room and creating a focal point by painting the existing fireplace black. She built the furniture herself as well with a little help from her husband.

Jersey loves the combination of dusty pink and grey so this was incorporated into a moodboard when the planning work began to ensure everything worked together in the final design.

The final look is fun and stylish with classic pieces and whimsical accents that can easily be swapped as Jersey’s tastes change.

Kerry chose a laptop from AO as a final flourish to this smart and stylish space. “Jersey loves [the laptop]. She gets much more homework which has to be done on the computer now so it was perfect timing.”

When asked what pieces of advice she has for others tackling a small space, Kerry tells us, “I would definitely recommend putting together a moodboard with your chosen items to make sure they all work well together. Make sure you prepare the space well by filling any holes and sanding. Use a good quality paint so that you don’t need to apply too many coats.”

As for her next project, Kerry says there’s always ongoing projects in her home. “My husband jokes and says that if you stand around too long, you’ll get painted!”
