    Why Is My Fridge Wet?

If you’ve noticed water pooling in your fridge, it’s more common than you might think. There are a few simple reasons why it could happen, from blocked drains to faulty seals. Let’s break down what might be causing the issue and how to fix it.

Sarah Heaps, refrigeration expert at AO, gave her advice on how to look after your fridge.

    She explained:

Why is my fridge wet inside?

“There are a few faults or easy mistakes you can make which lead to a wet fridge. If your fridge door isn’t sealing properly this can mean warm air enters from outside and causes condensation. This in turn wets your fridge’s interior.

“Most fridges have a small drain hole to prevent condensation from building, however if this gets blocked, water can begin to accumulate or pool at the bottom. One other thing to consider, is if your fridge is overfilled. This means that the cool air cannot circulate properly which can lead to uneven cooling and moisture build-up.”

Tips to Prevent and Solve It

To prevent your fridge from being wet, make sure you check the fridge door for any damage or gaps in the rubber gasket. You can clean this gasket with warm soapy water yet if this is damaged then you may need to replace it.

Locate your fridge drain hole (which is often at the back or bottom) and use the warm soapy water to give this a clean to clear out any clogged debris.

In future, try not to keep the fridge door open for too long. When it is left open for too long this can affect the humidity with warm air. You can also try to place a small container of baking soda in your fridge to absorb any excess moisture.

“Finally, make sure you’re setting your fridge up correctly. The ideal fridge temperature is around 4 degrees. Avoid from setting this any lower as this can cause unnecessary freezing and condensation.”
