    How to treat Your Towels

Towels feeling a bit tired? Don’t worry—we’ve got a few simple tricks to bring back the softness, fluffiness, and brightness you love.

Gwilym Snook, laundry expert shared his opinion on how you should be treating your towels. He said:

Do you have any tips to help people soften hard towels?

“If you’re looking to soften your towels then first try soaking your towels in a half-and-half mixture of vinegar and water for an hour before popping them into the washing machine. By doing this, you will help to break down any residue which is causing your towels to be stiff.

“Next, add half a cup of baking soda to your regular laundry detergent drawer as this will further help to soften your towels during the wash. Once your wash is complete, try to air dry your towels as over-drying can hinder your efforts. If you cannot avoid using your tumble dryer, then try to dry them on a lower heat setting with your dryer ball handy, to prevent any stiffness re-emerging.”

Do you have any tips or hacks to keep towels fluffy for longer?

“A little-know trick to keeping your towels fluffy for longer is to do less. Don’t iron your towels as excessive heat can make your towels rough to touch, and you can also apply the same advice to your washing machine. As your towels are washed repeatedly in hot water, detergent can leave a residue which stiffens their fabric. To counter this, try using warm or cool water in your wash as this will be gentler to your towels.”

Do you have any tips or hacks to help keep white laundry items white?

“If you’re lucky enough to see the sun this summer, then try to hang your white materials outside when it’s hot. Sunlight has natural bleaching properties which can help keep your whites bright. Should you be less lucky with weather then instead you can try to add half a cup of baking soda to your washing machine next time you’re washing your whites.”
