Katie Lilywhite, air purifier expert at AO.com, shared her tips on using your air purifier. She explained:
“To get the most out of your air purifier this spring, you must first ensure you close all doors and windows. Your air purifier works best when there’s a confined space as it can effectively filter the air and prevents any outdoor pollutants from entering which ultimately leads to cleaner air in your home.
“If you’re perhaps in the market for a new air purifier, then its important you choose one equipped with a HEPA filter. These filters are a godsend for anyone who suffers with allergies, as they trap small particles like dust, pollen and pet dander – drastically improving your indoor air quality.”
“Leaving your air purifier on is perfectly safe and a practical thing to do even when you’re not at home. This will keep the indoor air quality consistent throughout the day which means you’ll have less fuss to deal with when you return from work. If you suffer from hay fever, then you’ll be able to turn your home into a micro-climate free from any troublesome pollen.”
“Your air purifier will work when the windows are open however it will be far less efficient. These appliances rely on circulating and filtering the air in enclosed spaces and face an uphill struggle when windows or doors are left open.
“Instead, try to keep your windows closed next time you’re popping your air purifier on, and ensure you’re keeping your home free from any emission that could reduce your air purifier’s effectiveness.”
“While air purifiers are handy appliances to help maintain air quality around the home, they can be noisy – particularly if used at higher fan speeds. They can also prove costly if left on all the time, as the filters require replacing every so often.”
