How to create a bouncy blow dry with a Dyson Airwrap

Featuring loose curls and tons of volume, this look will make everyone think you’ve just walked out of the salon. And you don’t need to tell them you’ve got a magic wand tucked up your sleeve.

The Dyson Airwrap makes it easy to recreate this long-lasting lifted look at home, so we’ve put together a simple step-by-step guide to help you get there. All it takes is a little bit of practice, and you’ll be a pro.

    What you’ll need:

    • Dyson Airwrap
    • Pre-styling dryer attachment
    • Curling barrels — 30mm for tight curls, 40mm for looser waves
    • Heat protecting spray
    • Volumising mousse
    • Hair clips
    • A comb
    • Light flexible hold hairspray
    • Shine spray or light oil (optional)

    How it’s done:

    Step 1: Wash and prep

    • Start with freshly washed hair and add some heat protecting spray.
    • Scrunch in a lightweight, volumising mousse from roots to ends — this gives your look a little extra lift.

    Extra tips:

    • Want even more volume? Focus the product at the crown and top layers.
    • And if you’re after some extra shine, apply a small amount of light oil or shine spray to the mid-lengths and ends as you go and you’re ready to start drying.

    Step 2: Rough dry

    • Attach the pre-styling dryer tool and dry your hair until it’s about 80% there, leaving it just slightly damp.

    Extra tip:

    • For a sleek blowout, you can use the round brush to smooth and lift the top layers, focusing on the crown and top sections before moving onto the sides and bottom.

    Step 3: Section your hair

Use clips to divide your into 4-6 sections, combing out any tangles as you go.

    Step 4: Get styling

    With the round brush:

    • Lift each section at the crown while directing the airflow from your roots to mid-lengths.
    • Hold for 3-5 seconds at the roots before blasting a cool shot to set it in place.

    Extra tip:

    • Work through the top layers first to get a fuller, bouncier finish.

    With the Airwrap barrels:

    • Start with the lower sections, wrapping each lock around the barrel.
    • Hold it in place for 10-15 seconds and use the cool shot for 3-5 seconds to lock in the shape.
    • Repeat this across every section.
    • Wait for 5-10 minutes for it to completely air dry before gently brushing through with your fingers or a wide-toothed comb — focus on the mid-lengths and ends to keep the lift at the roots for an effortless, volumised finish.

    Step 5: The finishing touches

    • After gently brushing through your hair, add a light mist of flexible hold hairspray to lock in the style without weighing your hair down.

Trust us, once you’ve nailed this technique, you’ll be giving your favourite hairdresser a run for their money.
