How to monitor internet usage on Windows 10

If you’re on a limited broadband or 4G internet contract, it’s really important you keep tabs on how much data you’re using. Go over your limit and you can find yourself facing pretty hefty charges. When you’re using Windows 10 it’s really simple to keep track of your internet usage.

Step 1

Click on the Windows icon on the bottom left of the screen, and click on the ‘Settings’ icon.

Step 2

Click on the ‘Network & Internet’ option in the settings menu.

Step 3

Click ‘Data Usage’, which is on the left of the screen.

Here, you can see how much internet you have used up in total, and how much each program you’re running is using. It’s also useful for seeing how much you’ve downloaded.

Applications can still be using up internet data even when you’ve closed them down. You can stop individual programs from running by going to ‘Privacy’ in ‘Settings’ and then selecting ‘Background Apps’.
